What to expect at the first session of Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy.

Your first pelvic floor appointment will be about 60 minutes; it will include a discussion of your health history & the reason(s) for your visit, a thorough orthopedic assessment of the spine, pelvis, abdomen & hips, and an internal vaginal and/or rectal examination. Once the comprehensive assessment is completed, your physiotherapist will inform you of their findings, provide education regarding the pathophysiology & anatomy of their findings, and discuss a treatment plan. Internal pelvic floor muscles (PFM) examinations are performed vaginally and/or rectally to assess the strength & tone of PFM. These finding can be very valuable to determine the whole clinical picture & create a treatment plan best suited for you & your needs. This examination is only done with your consent.
