Service Description

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a specialized branch of physiotherapy that looks specifically at the pelvis, low back & abdomen and conditions that affect these areas. It is for both men & women, at any stages of life. Conditions can be benefited include. • Urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, urge incontinence • Pain with bowel movements and/or urination • Pelvic organs prolapse. • Constipation • Painful intercourse (dyspareunia, vaginismus) • Pain in areas of the vagina (vestibulodynia, vulvodynia, clitorodynia) • Interstitial cystitis & PCOS • Endometriosis • Chronic pelvic pain • Pudendal neuralgia • Hip pain. • Prenatal care • Postpartum care What to expect at the first session of Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy Your first pelvic floor appointment will be about 60 minutes; it will include a discussion of your health history & the reason(s) for your visit, a thorough orthopedic assessment of the spine, pelvis, abdomen & hips, and an internal vaginal and/or rectal examination. Once the comprehensive assessment is completed, your physiotherapist will inform you of their findings, provide education regarding the pathophysiology & anatomy of their findings, and discuss a treatment plan. Internal pelvic floor muscles (PFM) examinations are performed vaginally and/or rectally to assess the strength & tone of PFM. These finding can be very valuable to determine the whole clinical picture & create a treatment plan best suited for you & your needs. This examination is only done with your consent.
